Fletcher 1930-1939

A pipeline of work carries Fletcher through the first months of the Depression, but profits drop to £18,204 for the March 1930 year. Fletcher is deeply overdrawn, over approved bank limits.

The building of fertiliser works at Ravensbourne in Dunedin in 1930, and profits from their operation, help ensure Fletcher's survival when other profits are eroded. Over the next three years, Fletcher competes for the few tenders available.

Successful tenders include the Wellington Railway Station, the Dominion Museum and the Mangatainoka brew tower.

The Napier Earthquake in 1931 sees Fletcher construct the temporary Napier retail and bank centre 'Tin Town' - and later rebuild and repair much of Napier's and Hasting's business districts.
