Fletcher in the 1900's

It all started with a passionate and hard working lad from Scotland making a new life for himself.

In 1908, 22 year old James Fletcher emigrates from Kirkintilloch in Scotland, to Dunedin in New Zealand.

He forms a partnership, Fletcher and Morris, with fellow joiner Albert Morris and on 1 June 1909, Albert and James are awarded a contract to build a double bay villa on Portobello Road in Broad Bay on the Otago Peninsula.

Carpenter Alec McGregor is engaged, and apprentice Alf Flint.

Fletcher and Morris are given a contract to build a house for Dunedin businessman J. M. Cameron. The Cameron family is to play a significant role in James's personal life - and his business.
